Mala Marvel is an extraordinary 10-day cultural expedition through some of Zimbabwe's most distinctive and less-explored destinations. From the remote shores of Lake Kariba and the rich Tonga heritage of Binga to the vibrant capital of Harare, the granite landscapes of Domboshawa and the wild Zambezi Valley at Kanyemba, every stage reveals a different chapter of Zimbabwe.

This is a journey designed for travellers who want to go beyond the usual tourist trail. Expect long scenic road journeys, authentic cultural encounters, traditional food and crafts, breathtaking landscapes, fascinating stories and opportunities to connect with communities along the way.

Day 1 :

Arrival in Zimbabwe | Harare

Arrive in Harare and receive a warm Zimbabwean welcome. Transfer to your accommodation and settle in after your journey. Depending on arrival time, enjoy a relaxed introduction to Harare, with an opportunity to experience the city's atmosphere and local cuisine.

Day 02 :

Harare City & Zimbabwean Culture

Discover the character of Zimbabwe's capital through its landmarks, markets, arts, crafts and food. Visit selected cultural attractions and experience contemporary Zimbabwean life while learning about the country's history and people.

Day 03 :

Harare to Binga

The adventure begins in earnest as you travel west towards Binga, one of Zimbabwe's most distinctive cultural destinations. This is a long journey, but the changing scenery provides a fascinating introduction to rural Zimbabwe.

Arrive in Binga and settle into your accommodation, with time to relax and enjoy the surrounding environment.

Day 04 :

Binga | Tonga Cultural Experience

Spend the day immersed in the culture and traditions of the Tonga people. Discover local crafts, traditional practices, music, stories and community life.

Experience the landscapes around Lake Kariba and gain an appreciation of Binga's unique position between culture and wilderness.

Day 05 :

Binga | Lake Kariba & Community Experience

Continue exploring Binga and the Lake Kariba area. Enjoy a relaxed day of cultural interaction, scenic exploration and photography.

Depending on the final programme, activities may include community visits, traditional craft experiences, riverside or lakeside activities and opportunities to sample local cuisine.

Day 06 :

Binga to Harare

Depart Binga for the journey back towards Harare. The long drive provides another opportunity to experience Zimbabwe's changing landscapes and rural communities.

Arrive in Harare and relax after the journey.

Day 07 :

Harare to Mt Hampden & Domboshawa

Leave the city behind and explore the landscapes surrounding Mt Hampden and Domboshawa.

Discover Zimbabwe's dramatic granite formations, rural communities and ancient cultural landscapes. Domboshawa offers excellent opportunities for photography, nature walks and appreciating the relationship between Zimbabwe's people and its natural environment.

Day 08 :

Journey to Kanyemba

Travel north towards Kanyemba, entering the remote Zambezi Valley.

As the landscape becomes increasingly wild and less developed, the journey itself becomes part of the experience. Arrive in Kanyemba and settle into your accommodation.

Day 09 :

Kanyemba | Zambezi Valley Experience

Spend the day discovering the unique character of Kanyemba and the Zambezi Valley.

Enjoy opportunities for wildlife viewing, river experiences, photography and interaction with the local environment. Depending on seasonal conditions and the selected lodge, activities may include a Zambezi boat cruise, fishing, canoeing, nature walks or guided wildlife experiences.

Kanyemba | Final Experience & Departure

Enjoy a final morning in the Zambezi Valley before beginning your onward journey.

How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

Annapurna Base Camp is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will too, you can.

How long do we walk every day when doing Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 4190m. This is the elevation of Annapurna Base Camp. ABC is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay a certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, a hot water facility could be free at a lower elevation.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason.

It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.
